Grand Knight's Message

My Dear Brother Knights,

In writing my report to you this month, I tried to spend the time to find an appropriate message for the Season of Lent which is underway. I hope I have done my job, and the following is from the Catechism of The Catholic Church paperback edition page 400:

Conversion is accomplished in daily life by gestures of reconciliation, concern for the poor, the exercise and defense of justice and right, by the admission of faults to one’s brethren , fraternal correction, revision of life, examination of conscience, spiritual direction, acceptance of suffering, endurance of persecution for the sake of righteousness. Taking up one’s cross each day and following Jesus is the surest way of penance.

As Knights of Columbus, we are Catholic men who want and can make a difference. If we all focused on Jesus more and spread his love to others we could surely make a difference to everyone we meet in the Community, in the workplace and throughout the world.

I felt truly privileged to attend the New York State Knights of Columbus Right to Life Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday January 21st celebrated by Cardinal Egan. In his homily, Cardinal Egan showed a picture from the January 17 Daily News entitled “Small Wonders” which came from the National Geographic special TV show. It showed 3 infants in a womb. Cardinal Egan said, “If anyone cannot see that these are children, they need glasses!” Amen! Let us all be focused on respecting life from the beginnings of life in the womb to the twilight hours of life.

So many great things have happened at our council this year and I want to thank all of you for all of your assistance. I want to thank PGK’s Steve Driscoll and Mike Murtha for their successful Autism Speaks fundraiser at our Council as well as Bobby Redmond and Danny McWeeney for their great work at the Super Bowl. In addition, a special thanks to the McWeeney Family (Danny, Pam, Tricia and Danny Jr.) for the successful guest bartender night.

Greg Peppard has graciously agreed to be the C and B chairman this year and I am grateful to him. Brothers, get those books in please!

In closing, there is no limit to what we can accomplish. May God bless you and your families!

Regards,

Tom Kelly
